WOLFGANGSEE ADVENT

Wolfgangsee Advent at Salzkammergut is something extraordinary. The region around lake Wolfgangsee is world famous for operettas, movies and the Mozart family. In Advent the main villages St. Gilgen, Strobl and St. Wolfgang – linked by the quiet lake – spare no efforts to enchant their guests with beautiful illuminations, sparkling lights, elaborate market stalls, nativity displays, a huge peace-lantern, a comet, lots of traditional artisanry and local delicacies.

Coming from Salzburg we first stop at the Mozart village St. Gilgen which presents itself as a baroque representation. The market stalls are elaborately painted inspired by the art of three-dimensional wall and ceiling painting from the Baroque era. The buildings around Mozart square continue the themes with authentic Christmas decoration.

Then enjoy the rustic village Strobl which turns into a live nativity scene. Not only children will be fascinated by the scenery at the shore with many life animals and the Star of Bethlehem.

From there you will get by boat to St. Wolfgang, the romantic Village of Stars. You will pass the big Peace-lantern and it’s worth to look back at the huge comet above Strobl Bay. At St. Wolfgang candles and torches create a special atmosphere. You can watch craftsmen at work and children can write a letter to the Christkind (Christ Child), the youngest assisted by angels.

Inspired by the multifaceted Advent impressions and hopefully with a jouyful heart and satisfied by the many offered delicacies you will get back to Salzburg.
