Commissioned by Hitler to meet officials it was part of the Obersalzberg military complex and thus crucial for the Third Reich. Like an Eagle’s nest it tops the mountain Kehlstein at 6017 ft and is an architectural master piece. The road up to there is unique in the world and a milestone in road construction. Indeed, this tour is a package of superlatives. Alternatively the Obersalzberg Ducumentation can be visited. On the way back we will stop also at the nearby town of Berchtesgaden.

With a view of the mountain Untersberg always ahead of us for some kilometers we cross the Austrian/German border and drive through valleys and along the stream Königseeache until we go up the mountain to Obersalzberg. The road from there to the Eagle’s Nest parking lot is a milestone in the history of road construction in alpine regions and unique in the world.
Via a tunnel you then get to the brass elevator which takes you inside the mountain straight up 124 m in only 42 seconds. At 1834 m (6017 ft) above sea level you will have a breathtaking panoramic view up to 200 km!
“Eagle’s Nest” itself is an architectural master piece with some meters thick base walls situated on a ridge on top of the Kehlstein mountain. It was part of the Obersalzberg military complex where Hitler frequently met foreign and domestic officials. Thus it is inseparably linked with World War II and its history. Now it is used as a restaurant.
If time allows we will also stop at the nearby town of Berchtesgaden.
OPTIONAL: The Obersalzberg Documentation centre can be added to Eagle’s Nest on an extended private tour. If you are interested to include both please contact us under [email protected].
