THE ORIGINAL FILM LOCATIONS FROM “The Sound of Music” and PLACES FROM MARIA v. TRAPP’s REAL LIFE
“The Sound of Music”
– With beautiful film locations which can make one dream to follow Julie Andrews’ as Maria von Trapp and her family’s footsteps
We will take you to original film locations, (also several locations in Maria von Trapp’s real life) some of them also Salzburg’s (town and country) most attractive sightseeing places. Mirabell Palace and Gardens, where Maria and the children sang ‘Do-Re-Mi’ we will pass by. It is recommendable to visit the gardens with the Pegasus fountain and the “Do-Re-Mi-steps” i.e. after the tour.
We will pass by Frohnburg Palace (‘I have confidence in me’). Felsenreitschule (‘Edelweiss’) and Nonnberg Abbey in the old town of Salzburg will be also along our driving route (the locations themselves are already in the pedestrians precinct) as well as Mozart foot bridge.
A stop will be at Leopoldskron Palace and Leopoldskron Lake (where the children fell into the water), a picturesque place with Hohensalzburg Fortress surmounting Leopoldskron Castle and in the diestance the mighty mountain Untersberg over which (only in the movie) the Trapp family fled Austria..
The next stop will be at the park of Hellbrunn Palace, where the glass pavilion “Gazebo” had been reconstructed (‘I am 16 going on 17’).
We will then leave Salzburg town heading for Salzkammergut/Lake District, driving through country villages along Lake Fuschl to high over St. Gilgen (also famous for the Mozart family) with a breathtaking view over Lake Wolfgang.
Finally we will take the Romantic Road towards Mondsee (village and lake) where in the Mondsee Basilica (wedding church) you can follow Maria and Baron von Trapp’s footsteps to the wedding altar.
After all this, enjoy the way back to Salzburg – being excited, dreaming, or singing one of the wonderful songs.
